For many years, the Kiwanis Club of Flagler Palm Coast has proudly celebrated Teacher Appreciation, honoring the dedicated educators who play a vital role in shaping the future of our community.
This meaningful tradition reflects Kiwanis’ deep commitment to children and education. Over the decades, the club has consistently recognized outstanding teachers from across Flagler County, highlighting their dedication, passion, and impact on students’ lives.
A History of Honoring Educators
As early as 1989, Kiwanis honored Teachers of the Year from multiple schools during special recognition events. Educators such as Polly Conkling—herself a Kiwanis member and longtime teacher—were celebrated for their belief that every child has the potential to learn when given the right opportunities and support.
In the years that followed, Kiwanis continued this tradition by hosting appreciation breakfasts, presentations, and community gatherings. Teachers from elementary, middle, high school, and adult education programs were recognized for their excellence, leadership, and commitment to student success.
By 1991, Teacher Appreciation Week had become a county-wide celebration, with activities such as breakfasts, lunches, and appreciation events organized across schools. Kiwanis members personally participated by distributing tokens of gratitude—such as apples and gifts—while thanking teachers for their dedication to students and the community.
In 1992 and beyond, teachers representing multiple schools were honored at Kiwanis meetings, reinforcing the message that educators truly make a difference in the lives of children.
