They recognize not just participation, but extraordinary service, consistent leadership, and meaningful contributions that create lasting change.

Purpose and Meaning

The Distinguished Service Awards were established to:

  • Recognize outstanding volunteer service
  • Honor individuals who exemplify Kiwanis values and leadership
  • Celebrate contributions that have a significant and lasting impact on communities
  • Encourage continued excellence and inspiration within Kiwanis clubs worldwide

These awards highlight the heart of Kiwanis-selfless service, compassion, and leadership in action.

Recipients are typically:

  • Dedicated Kiwanis members with a strong record of service
  • Club leaders or officers who demonstrate exceptional leadership
  • Individuals who have made a measurable difference in community projects, especially those benefiting children

Selections are often made at the club, division, district, or international level, depending on the scope of impact.

While specific criteria may vary, recipients are generally evaluated based on:

  • Length and consistency of service
  • Leadership roles and effectiveness
  • Impact of service projects
  • Commitment to Kiwanis values and mission
  • Inspiration to others within the organization

This is not a routine award-it is reserved for those who truly stand out.

Receiving a Distinguished Service Award represents:

  • A high level of honor and respect within the Kiwanis community
  • Recognition of exceptional dedication and integrity
  • A legacy of service that extends beyond local impact

For many recipients, it is a defining acknowledgment of their lifelong commitment to helping others.

The Distinguished Service Awards reinforce the culture of excellence within Kiwanis by:

  • Encouraging members to strive for greater service and leadership
  • Highlighting role models who embody the spirit of Kiwanis
  • Strengthening the global mission of improving lives, especially for children
