The Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis, in collaboration with the Friends of the Library and the Flagler Education Foundation, proudly paid tribute to 96-year-old Bill Klinkenberg, a devoted and steadfast member of our community.
In recognition of his lifelong dedication, the Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis made a $2,000 donation to the Friends of the Library in Bill’s honor. This contribution will directly support the purchase of children’s books, continuing his legacy of nurturing education, literacy, and opportunity for future generations.
We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this meaningful event, with special recognition and heartfelt appreciation to Bill for his extraordinary service.

The Beginning of a Library: A Legacy of Service and Dedication
It all began in a small, humble room-yet filled with vision and purpose. Approximately 900 books were gathered and made available to the community. What started as a modest initiative soon grew into something truly meaningful.
Every Saturday morning, dedicated volunteers came together with a shared mission. Rectangular tables were set up, and books were carefully organized and displayed for the community to enjoy. Week after week, this commitment never wavered.
From this faithful effort, a library was born.
This journey was never just about books-it was about people. Community members generously donated books from their homes, and a small group of six individuals worked tirelessly to build something lasting. Meetings were held in homes, ideas were shared, and a vision began to take shape.
Eventually, a house across from the community was obtained. Though it required extensive transformation, it became a place where books could be shared and sold at affordable prices, ensuring access for all.
What began as a simple effort grew into a thriving community resource. Saturday mornings became a symbol of unity, generosity, and service. Donations continued, volunteers remained committed, and the mission flourished.
From Bunnell, this vision expanded to Palm Coast and beyond-built on the belief that knowledge should be accessible and shared. The library became a place of connection, growth, and opportunity.
Today, we stand proud of what has been created. What once was small is now a lasting legacy-and the journey continues. Historical notes of “Bill Klinkengerg “
